The question is, will you be able to find that doggone whacka-frack slack-baggin’ 10mm socket in there?

I can see at least 5 different brands of combination wrenches there, what gives? The OCD tool-organizer in me wants desperately to sort these neatly.

Talk to me! Including Hazet, Gedore, Stahlwille — which I bought when I was living in Germany in the 90s — Craftsman, KAL, Bonney — the latter two I pilfered from the Army during the same period, and others.

I just did an engine swap on a Nissan Versa and had everything I needed.

But I need a new 1/4" ratchet and my birthday is next week.

Approve of most. Like the old speed handle. Your ratchets will do but could stand an upgrade. I have a bunch of ratchets from cheap to Snap-On.

I made a new gif just now. This reminds me of myself interacting with my 16-year-old daughter yesterday morning.

I have the solution to the 10mm socket issue. I own about 6-7 normal in 6 and 12 points , 3-4 deeps and even a 10mm spline drive.

Haha, I realized I have a good variety also but not like that. Like, an incomplete set with one of a different brand, etc you know

Might I recommend the gear wrench 1/4" drive ratchet? Unless you’re going to go all out and grab one of the big three, it’s a nice 84 tooth ratchet. Love mine.

You probably spent as much on a Snap-On ratchet as I spent on the entire lot. What’s fun for me is that I know what every tool is. I couldn’t list them for you, but I bought — or purloined — each of those tools at different times so they have some nostalgic value. But I just used them to perform an engine swap and I had everything I needed. But the Craftsman 1/4" ratchet is AWFUL and it’s my birthday next week (53) and I think Mrs. O.C. wants to buy me a new one.

Having the different brands makes them easier to spot, believe it or not. I know the 3/8" 13mm socket, for instance, is Hazet and the 19mm is Gedore, and they look different.

I think Mrs. O.C. is going to buy me the Craftsman 78-tooth ratchet for my birthday next week. I don’t use 1/4" very much, but that has a lot to do with the crappily-designed Craftsman ratchet that I own. The other two Craftsman ratchets work quite well, even if they have fewer teeth.

This is the solution to more than half of all my 10mm needs. It’s great for not overtorquing things. Probably the single most helpful, useful tool in my toolbox. I bought it in Germany around 1990. There was this parts store called Stahlbruber that also had an excellent assortment of hand tools, including lots of Stahlwille and Hazet. So I bought several wrenches and sockets to fill in sizes that I was missing. Lots of sentimental value and nostalgia there. None of my daughters would have any interest in any of this, so I hope I get a grandchild who has some interest.

Yes, I’ve spent a lot on tools. I am the Tim Allen in my neighborhood. Guys come and ask my help once in a while. I’m nice and don’t use my air tools outside except once or twice a tear and only for stubborn stuff. If I need to run the compressor I usually keep the work inside the garage with at least one of the doors shut.

That one should be nice.... but 84 is more than 78, so it better right, because it’s more.... I kid. I do like the high tooth count ratchets though, they allow for tight spaces quite nicely. Still worth a look. I just found the set I grabbed on amazon. I think that’s $30 cheaper than the craftsman pro set, which I think is the one you’re referring to.

That’s totally true... for example I know my 16mm ratcheting combination wrench from a mile away haha.
